Whistleblower informs police of alleged death threat from Power TV’s Rakesh Shetty

A whistleblower who has been exclusively speaking to Blrpost.com said he had informed the police about an alleged death threat from Rakesh Shetty, Managing Director (MD) of Power TV. The whistleblower is now being questioned by the team probing the case.
It must be noted that Shetty has admitted to conducting a controversial sting operation in which former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s name was mentioned. However, during a live show aired on Thursday evening, Shetty offered a fresh explanation, claiming that the sting operation was a reality-check on the allegations that had surfaced against Siddaramaiah.
Shetty also claimed that he had informed Siddaramaiah about the video. However, the question remains as to why the former Chief Minister did not file a complaint against the woman seen in the video and why Shetty did not air the sting operation on his television channel until it was leaked.
What has caused considerable embarrassment for the Congress government is Shetty’s claim, made during the live show, that he has close links with incumbent Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
Death threat
The whistleblower has reportedly informed a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), who is part of the team probing the sting video, that he had received an alleged death threat from Shetty. The whistleblower visited the team investigating the sting video to record his statements.
A screenshot shared by the whistleblower shows a message sent by him that reads: “I can talk now. I have a death threat from Rakesh Shetty.” The whistleblower has also informed the vigilance wing of the Karnataka High Court that he is allegedly facing a death threat from Shetty.
The whistleblower said he had not uploaded the alleged sting video and suspected the involvement of K V Prashanth Kumar. The whistleblower said Prashanth had registered a complaint against Shetty in 2024, alleging death threats from Shetty and the illegal procurement of call detail records (CDRs). The whistleblower said Prashanth may had leaked the videos.
