Power TV sting scandal: Employee who possessed sting videos died under mysterious circumstances in 2024
Bengaluru
An employee who allegedly possessed sting videos recorded on the instructions of Power TV Managing Director Rakesh Shetty died under mysterious circumstances at the television channel’s office in 2024, according to a whistleblower who has been speaking exclusively to blrpost.com.
The Yeshwanthpur police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) following the incident. However, the whistleblower alleged that the police closed the case without conducting a proper investigation and demanded that the Karnataka government reopen it.
The deceased employee, identified as Vicky, allegedly died after falling from a lift that had malfunctioned, according to the explanation reportedly given to his family by Rakesh Shetty and the police.
Questioning this account, the whistleblower said the circumstances surrounding the incident required further investigation.
“How can a person fall from an office lift that was functioning normally? Why did the lift suddenly malfunction?” the whistleblower asked, alleging that the circumstances of Vicky’s death were suspicious.
Sting video allegedly linked to death
The whistleblower claimed that Vicky possessed sting videos recorded on Shetty’s instructions and had handed over one such video before his death.
“What makes his death even more suspicious is that Vicky was possessing sting videos. One video was handed over to me,” the whistleblower told blrpost.com.
The whistleblower said the video was subsequently submitted to the vigilance department of the Karnataka High Court and that a complaint was lodged with the department. blrpost.com has seen a copy of the complaint.
The whistleblower further alleged that Shetty threatened him after learning that the video was in his possession.
“His death occurred after Vicky handed over the video. When Rakesh Shetty learnt that a sting video was with me, he threatened that I would also face the same fate as Vicky. I have mentioned this in my complaint to the vigilance department,” the whistleblower said.
Alleged payment to employee’s wife
The whistleblower also alleged that Shetty paid money to Vicky’s wife following the employee’s death allegedly not to pursue the case.
Blrpost.com had an audio recording in which Vicky’s wife allegedly acknowledged receiving money. The circumstances and purpose of the alleged payment remain to be independently established.
