Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat has been booked by Mangaluru police for allegedly making provocative remarks during a condolence meeting held in connection with a recent murder in the district.
The incident occurred on May 12 at Madwa Palace Kalyana Mantapa in Kavlapadoor village, where Bhat addressed a gathering of around 500 people. According to police, his speech allegedly contained statements capable of inciting communal disharmony and disrupting social harmony by fostering animosity between religious groups.
Citing concerns over potential threats to law and order, authorities registered a case against Bhat at Bantwal Rural Police Station under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The section pertains to statements conducing to public mischief, including the circulation of false or alarming information with intent to promote enmity or hatred among communities.
Under Section 353(2), individuals found guilty of such offences may face imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both. Police confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway.
