Vijayendra’s Ballari gamble: A march to save his BJP post

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s 10-day march to Ballari seemingly has a single goal, and is glaringly visible. And it is definitely not fighting the alleged corruption rampant in the Congress government.
The march, which will conclude on Thursday (September 10, 2026), has become a platform for BJP State President B Y Vijayendra to retain his post. Top sources in the Sangh Parivar, speaking to blrpost.com, said the sole purpose of the Ballari Chalo is to save Vijayendra from losing his position. Apart from this, there is no other motive behind the event — because B Nagendra had resigned before the so-called march kicked off.
Minister for Planning and Statistics B Nagendra resigned on August 28 over his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd. The march to Ballari was built around the same corruption case. Sources in the RSS said the Chalo has no meaning at its core as the person at the centre of the case has already resigned.
The RSS sources suspected that the BJP’s high-voltage protest against Nagendra could be the result of Vijayendra’s political calculations within the BJP. Nagendra, a former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s lieutenant, is opposed by some Congress leaders who want him to remain out of the Cabinet. This, the sources said, is precisely why Vijayendra initially raised the issue. The same BJP president, however, is not keen on protesting against the Bengaluru Tunnel Road project.
While Vijayendra’s protest helped some Congress leaders, he also saw an opportunity to retain his position. Hence, even after Nagendra’s resignation, he carried out the march along with his friends C T Ravi and Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja.
The RSS sources further said Vijayendra is set to lose the post as the BJP leadership feels he is unfit for the position and is concerned about his covert friendship with some Congress leaders. The irony is that, like his father B S Yediyurappa, he has tied up with the infamous Ballari brothers, Gali Janardhana Reddy and Sriramulu. Everyone in the Sangh Parivar and the BJP knows the alleged track record of these brothers.
Vijayendra is also peddling falsehoods against the next potential CM candidate, Sunil Kumar. Kumar met Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in connection with the Mahamastakabhisheka scheduled for February 18. Vijayendra’s social media team is now busy trolling the visit. The RSS sources said the leaders are not fools to believe whatever narrative is being pushed on social media.
