KSRTC recruits after eight years; 2,000 driver-cum-conductors appointed

In a significant move, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has finally resumed recruitment after a gap of eight years. On Tuesday at the KSRTC central office appointment orders to 2,000 successful driver-cum-conductor candidates.

The recruitment process for these posts had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it resumed after the government granted permission on October 13, 2023, to fill 300 technical assistant and 2,000 driver-cum-conductor posts. These positions were highly anticipated as part of KSRTC’s efforts to strengthen its workforce and improve public transport services across the state.

The Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy in his address, congratulated the newly appointed staff and highlighted that the recruitment process had been entirely transparent. The selection was based purely on merit, without any human intervention. Minister Reddy further emphasised that the newly appointed staff must work diligently to preserve and enhance the reputation of the KSRTC. He urged them to interact courteously with female passengers and students, prioritise safety, and maintain vigilance while on duty.

The Minister also touched upon the corporation’s recovery after the pandemic, acknowledging the economic challenges faced but stressing that the KSRTC had successfully navigated through the tough phase and was now looking toward growth. As part of the worker-friendly initiatives, the corporation is providing free medical services to its employees and their dependents.

S R Srinivas, Chairman of KSRTC, mentioned that the recruitment process had been stagnant for the past eight years, but the state government, led by Transport Minister Reddy, had resolved the matter by engaging in discussions with the authorities and reviving the hiring process. He assured that the selection was based on merit and that every candidate had been allocated to their respective units according to their preference.

Additionally, Vice Chairman Mohammad Rizwan Nawab extended his congratulations to the new recruits, stating that the selection process was conducted with utmost care and transparency. He further explained that the newly appointed staff members would be required to report to their designated workstations by July 5, 2025.

The recruitment initiative also includes significant provisions for the families of deceased drivers. Over the past year, 209 jobs have been provided to the dependents of deceased employees, and a total of 1,000 dependents have been employed across four transport corporations.

The recruitment process for 2,500 vacancies over the past year reflects the corporation’s commitment to rebuilding and expanding its workforce, ensuring better service delivery, and securing long-term sustainability for the KSRTC.
