Prajwal Revanna’s phone seized in prison, efforts on to replace mobile inside CCB

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths raided the Parappana Agrahara jail on Tuesday and seized a mobile phone from convicted sexual offender Prajwal Revanna. However, a senior prison official who helped Revanna is now allegedly influencing the CCB to replace the phone.

The CCB seized a total of 10 mobile phones that were hidden by undertrials/convicts in the prison.

Sources in the police department told blrpost.com that Prajwal was using a mobile phone without any fear, and that the same was provided with the consent of the top brass in the Prison and Correctional Services Department. Based on the tip-off, the CCB raided the Bengaluru Central Jail and seized the phone.

The source further said Prajwal was regularly communicating with multiple people over the same phone and playing games. It is also suspected that he was in contact with family members over the same phone. The source said he was provided preferential treatment in the prison and was the only convict who was enjoying every benefit.

The source revealed that Prajwal was tagged with an undertrial inmate, and this undertrial was working as a maid for him. He was also securing outside food. These lapses were happening right under the nose of Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP), Prison and Correctional Services Department.

The phone seized by the CCB holds key evidence about whom he was talking to. Prajwal is the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. For the same reason, some senior prison officials are trying to replace the seized phone with another to conceal the evidence.

Former JD(S) MP Prajwal was convicted of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment in August 2025 by a Special Court in Bengaluru. He was found guilty of repeatedly assaulting a 47-year-old domestic worker employed at his family’s farmhouse in Mysuru and recording the acts to threaten her.

Prajwal faces three pending trials before Bengaluru’s Special MP/MLA Court, overseen by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Two cases involve separate allegations of repeated rape, voyeurism and criminal intimidation, filed by survivors following the leakage of explicit pen drives. The third case involves stalking, sexual harassment and IT Act violations for allegedly forcing a woman to strip over a video call, after which screenshots were subsequently leaked. Revanna petitioned the Supreme Court to transfer these trials to a different judge, alleging bias after his life sentence in the first case, but the top court rejected his plea.
