Accenture employee duped of ₹15 lakh in online job-cum-investment scam

Bengaluru

A software engineer working at Accenture has reportedly lost over ₹15 lakh in a sophisticated online scam that falsely promised lucrative commissions and investment returns under the pretext of part-time tasks. Ironically, the scam was marketed in the name of his own employer—Accenture.

The complainant, a resident of Bengaluru (PIN 560079), approached the police stating he was lured on May 29, 2025, through a message claiming to offer part-time job opportunities affiliated with Accenture. The unknown sender promised daily commissions in exchange for completing digital tasks and asked for a small “enrollment fee.” Over the following days, the victim completed around 20 such tasks and paid minor amounts like ₹800 and ₹4,800 to access “higher-paying” assignments.

He was then added to Telegram groups allegedly run by Accenture affiliates, where he was shown screenshots of profits and provided fake investment links. Trusting the Accenture branding, he began investing more money—initially ₹1,000, followed by a series of payments totaling ₹15,05,000—into various bank accounts shared by the fraudsters.

The scammers even returned small amounts at first to create an illusion of legitimacy, before stopping communication entirely and asking for more money to “unlock” withdrawal of his returns.

Upon realising he had been duped, the employee filed a complaint. Bengaluru police have registered a case under Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act and IPC Sections 318(4) and 319(2). An FIR (No. 220/2025) has been filed and a report has been submitted to the jurisdictional magistrate.

Police have warned tech professionals to be cautious of job scams that misuse the names of reputed firms like Accenture and are actively tracing the accounts and digital footprints used in this fraud.
