In a move to improve property tax collection in the city, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon start issuing notices to 3.75 lakh property tax defaulters. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to initiate action and recover the outstanding dues, which are estimated to be between ₹700 and ₹800 crore.
Speaking at a review meeting held at the BBMP central office today, Rao emphasised that property tax collection is a high priority for the civic body. He urged officials to implement effective measures to ensure timely tax payments.
Defaulters will receive notices via SMS and email. However, Rao clarified that those who have already paid need not worry. “For those with pending dues, immediate payment is necessary. Officials have been instructed to facilitate the process,” he stated.
The BBMP has received more than 50,000 applications for new property accounts. The commissioner directed that these applications be processed on a priority basis to boost tax revenue.
Rao announced that the Karnataka Government has approved online submission for A-Khata applications. BBMP will soon implement this system to streamline services and enhance transparency.
In view of the ongoing monsoon season, Rao instructed officials to urgently repair potholes, especially on arterial and sub-arterial roads. For ward-level roads, swift action should also be taken. The use of cold mix and eco-fix materials was recommended for filling potholes efficiently.
To prevent flooding during heavy rains, BBMP will intensify cleaning of roadside shoulder drains and gratings using silt removal tractors. Rao emphasised that rainwater must be allowed to flow smoothly through city drains.
The city has reported 69 dengue cases in the past week and 442 cases in July alone, with a total of 1,685 cases since January 2025. Rao directed officials to identify mosquito breeding sites and conduct larvicide spraying and fogging. He also called for increased public awareness campaigns, door-to-door visits, and installation of ovitraps in households.
Officials were instructed to coordinate with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and undertake IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities to better manage and reduce dengue cases.
The BBMP’s “Sahay 2.0” platform is receiving citizen complaints related to various civic issues. Rao urged officials to resolve these grievances within stipulated timeframes.
Civic authorities have also been directed to remove hazardous trees and branches across the city. Complaints registered on the Sahay platform regarding tree trimming must be addressed without delay.
