Greater Bengaluru Authority: Ward delimitation work to begin on August 3

Bengaluru

Deputy Chief Minister (Dy.CM) and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday announced that the Ward Delimitation Commission under the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will commence its work from August 3. The Commission will redraw ward boundaries and address objections as part of preparations for upcoming urban local body elections.

Addressing reporters after a meeting with GBA officials, Shivakumar, who also handles the Bengaluru development portfolio, said, “the Commission will carry out works like ward boundary identification, receiving objections, etc., for a month during August. The reservation process for the wards will follow, and a final report will be submitted to the courts. Once this is complete, we will move ahead with the election process.”

Massive E-Khata awareness campaign from October 22

The Dy.CM also announced a city-wide campaign to raise awareness about e-khatas. “From October 22 to November 1, we will conduct a massive awareness drive. Out of the 24 lakh A and B khata holders in Bengaluru, only about 6.5 lakh have been issued e-khatas so far,” he noted.

He added that government workers including school teachers, Bescom bill collectors, and BBMP staff will be roped in to support the outreach efforts. Additionally, from August 15, new guidelines will be issued for converting B khatas to A khatas, outlining eligibility criteria and application procedures.

New infrastructure projects to open before independence day

Shivakumar also revealed plans to inaugurate key infrastructure projects ahead of August 15. These include the newly constructed section of the Hebbal flyover, the redeveloped Shivananda Circle, and a multi-storey parking complex near Gandhi Bazaar.

Justifying Delhi visits amid BJP criticism

Responding to BJP state president BY Vijayendra’s criticism over the CM and DCM’s frequent visits to Delhi allegedly affecting state governance, Shivakumar defended the travel. “We are going to Delhi on July 31 to meet ambassadors. On August 2, we will participate in a programme on the Constitution at Vigyan Bhavan,” he said.
