‘Fines must to be imposed for roadside littering’

In a renewed push to improve sanitation and enforce civic responsibility, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) East Zone Commissioner Snehal announced that individuals caught littering along roadside areas will face fines. The directive comes as part of a broader cleanliness initiative targeting the East Zone of the city.

Snehal issued the orders during an inspection of Ward 62 – Ramaswamy Palya, where she evaluated ongoing sanitation efforts and gave several instructions to corporation staff.

Sanitation spot checks and directives issued

At the auto tipper mustering point near Chinnappa Garden Main Road, the commissioner reviewed driver attendance and punctuality. She confirmed that all assigned vehicles were present but expressed concern over waste and construction debris accumulating in the area. She instructed officials to remove the debris and install metal sheets to maintain hygiene at the site.

Similarly, an inspection of the pourakarmika mustering point on 4th Main Road revealed the need for stricter compliance with duty hours and safety measures. Snehal directed sanitation workers to report on time, wear protective gloves, and diligently cover their designated street-cleaning routes.

Focus on door-to-door waste collection

During a visit to the area near Ayyappa School in M R S Palya, the commissioner reviewed door-to-door waste collection practices. She emphasised the importance of timely collection and instructed auto tipper drivers to adhere strictly to their schedules. The inspection was attended by Assistant General Manager Abhilash, divisional and ward marshals, junior health officials, pourakarmikas, and other municipal staff.
