Bengaluru, Nagoya sign Joint Declaration to boost economic exchange
Bengaluru
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the city of Nagoya in Japan have signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) to promote economic exchange between the two cities. The agreement was formalised through the signatures of Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa and BBMP Administrator Tushar Giri Nath at Vidhana Soudha’s Committee Room No. 422 on Monday.
The declaration aims to strengthen the “sister city” relationship between Bengaluru and Nagoya, with commitments in three key areas:
- Sharing Industrial Insights: Both cities will exchange information on industrial trends in their respective regions and make it accessible to businesses and related organisations.
- Encouraging Business Expansion: Entrepreneurs and companies will be encouraged to explore business opportunities in each other’s cities, particularly in sectors where each has competitive strengths.
- Human Resource Collaboration: Universities and institutions in both cities will cooperate to facilitate human resource exchange for mutual economic growth.
BBMP Administrator Tushar Giri Nath praised Nagoya as a beautiful city and expressed hope that more companies from there would invest in Bengaluru. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said the pact would significantly boost trade growth and attract Japanese firms to the city. Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa described the agreement as a positive step to enhance existing business ties and promote economic cooperation.
The event was attended by BBMP Special Commissioner Harish Kumar K., senior officials including Kareegowda and Preeti Gehlot, representatives from Nagoya, and members of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC).
