Bengaluru fast track court summons B S Yediyurappa in POCSO case

Bengaluru

The 1st Fast Track Court in Bengaluru has issued summons to former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and three others in a POCSO case involving allegations of sexual assault on a minor girl. All four have been directed to appear before the court on December 2.

The development follows a recent verdict by the Karnataka High Court, which cleared the way for the trial to proceed. Yediyurappa had earlier approached the High Court challenging a lower court’s summons issued for framing of charges. However, the petition was dismissed, allowing the magistrate’s earlier summons to stand.

Case background

The case originates from a March 2024 complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, alleging that Yediyurappa sexually assaulted her daughter at his Dollars Colony residence when she visited to seek help. A POCSO case was registered at the Sadashivanagara Police Station, and the investigation was subsequently taken over by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) due to the gravity of the allegations.

In June 2024, the CID submitted a detailed chargesheet exceeding 750 pages, implicating Yediyurappa and three aides in sexual assault, destruction of evidence, and attempts to suppress the case. Both the survivor and her mother had recorded statements before a magistrate. The girl’s mother passed away on May 26, 2024.

With the High Court refusing to stay the proceedings, the trial is now set to move forward, starting with the appearance of the accused in the Fast Track Court on December 2.
