Institution of Engineers India backs Bengaluru Tunnel Road project

Bengaluru

The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) has voiced strong support for Bengaluru’s proposed tunnel road project, highlighting its potential to ease the city’s worsening traffic congestion.

At a Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) event on Ali Asker Road, IEI Secretary M. Lakshman, along with other office bearers, submitted a detailed report to Deputy Chief Minister, outlining the benefits of the project.

This statements comes at a time when the state government has paused long tunnel road project between Hebbal to Silk Board. Besides activists and BJP leaders are opposing the project terming it as pro-rich.

Lakshman said, “the decision to build a tunnel road in Bengaluru is an excellent one. The city’s traffic issues cannot be resolved without it. Contrary to some reports, the project does not cost ₹1,500 crore per kilometre; it is estimated at only ₹440 crore per kilometre. Funding will come from the Central government and several financial institutions. The Institution of Engineers India fully supports the state government and is ready to assist in any way required.”
