Complete Yelahanka Flyover by Sept 2026, GBA Chief Commissioner tells engineers
Bengaluru
Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to ensure that the ongoing Yelahanka flyover project is completed by the end of September 2026, stressing the need to accelerate pending works and resolve bottlenecks.
During an inspection of multiple infrastructure works under the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits on Friday, Rao said the 2-km-long flyover on Doddaballapur Main Road has achieved nearly 70 per cent progress. He instructed officials and contractors to adhere strictly to the deadline and complete the remaining works within the stipulated timeframe.
Providing a status update, officials said the project comprises 56 pillars, of which 51 have been completed, while five remain pending. Of the total 447 segments, 351 have been erected and 96 are yet to be installed. As the stretch witnesses continuous vehicular movement, segment erection is being undertaken only during night hours. Rao directed officials to sort out operational issues and quicken the pace of construction to avoid further delays.
White Topping on Hennur–Bagalur Road
Reviewing white-topping works on the Hennur–Bagalur Road, the Chief Commissioner noted that the project covers a 5-km stretch. White topping has been completed for 4 km on one side, with the remaining 1 km expected to be finished within 15 days. He instructed that vehicular movement be permitted immediately after the mandatory curing period.
He also directed that white-topping on the opposite carriageway be taken up within a month and executed in coordination with the Traffic Police to minimise disruption.
Playground Near Hennur Bande
Rao inspected a five-acre BDA land parcel near Hennur Bande and instructed officials to initiate the transfer of the land to the city corporation. He called for the development of a well-equipped playground at the site, along with tree planting and a dedicated walking track.
Vending Zone and Park in HBR Layout
At HBR Layout 1st Stage, he reviewed another BDA land parcel measuring three acres and directed that it be transferred to the corporation. Officials were asked to develop a designated vending zone for street vendors while reserving the central portion for a public park.
Yelahanka RUB Works
The Chief Commissioner also reviewed the railway underbridge (RUB) works at Yelahanka, where construction on one side, including box pushing, has been completed. Work on the other side remains stalled due to land acquisition issues. Rao instructed officials to resolve railway land-related hurdles at the earliest and proceed with the remaining works, besides initiating measures to widen the adjoining road.
Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, Additional Commissioners Latha and Amaresh, Joint Commissioners Mohammed Naem Momin and Pallavi, Chief Engineers Yamuna and Prakash, along with other senior officials, were present during the inspection.
