Kodigehalli records clean 6 km stretch as project Walkaluru completes 10th footpath audit
Bengaluru
The 10th Footpath Walk under Project Walkaluru was conducted in Kodigehalli on Sunday, with more than 120 citizens participating in a detailed on-ground assessment of pedestrian infrastructure along a continuous six-kilometre stretch.
The walk was organised following an open invitation from the Bengaluru North City Corporation and marked the sixth such exercise within its jurisdiction. So far, 40 km of footpaths have been covered within the corporation limits, contributing to a cumulative 78 km assessed across the city.
Revenue Minister and Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda flagged off the programme. Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar and Joint Commissioner Mohammed Naem Momin, along with officials, staff members, local residents and walking enthusiasts across age groups, took part in the exercise.
The designated route began at the Railway Parallel Road junction and covered stretches of Sahakar Nagar and Kodigehalli Main Roads, forming a continuous 6 km footpath corridor. Participants were instructed to walk strictly along the marked path and identify obstacles that forced pedestrians to step onto the main carriageway. They were also asked to document and photograph such obstructions.

After completing the six-kilometre walk, the following observations were recorded:
- Garbage spots – 0
- Open urination spots – 0
- Broken or missing footpath slabs – 1
- Two-wheelers blocking the footpath – 0

Citywide initiative
Project Walkaluru, launched on November 1, 2025, has already covered four out of the five city corporations. Walks have been conducted at Shivajinagar Rajyotsava 11K under the Central City Corporation, Koramangala 5K on November 8, Jayanagar 5K on November 16 under the South City Corporation, Banaswadi 5K on November 22, Thanisandra 8K on November 29 under the North City Corporation, Yelahanka 10K on December 13, the 26 km Bengaluru Walk on January 1, and in Kammanahalli, among other areas.
With Saturday’s event, the total assessed footpath length stands at 78 km. The organisers have set a target of achieving 100 km of walkable footpaths in the coming months.
Project Walkaluru is a joint initiative of GBA and citizens aimed at identifying, evaluating and promoting safe, continuous and walkable footpaths across Bengaluru.
Project Walkaluru Coordinator Arun Pai said that when city corporation officials invite citizens to independently evaluate footpaths, it reflects administrative confidence in infrastructure and a willingness to collaborate with the public. He added that the initiative has helped bridge the gap between civic authorities and residents, and the success of the first ten walks has encouraged similar efforts in more parts of the city.
The initiative continues under the vision: “Let’s Make Bengaluru a Walkaluru.”
