In a major push to ease traffic congestion in the city’s eastern corridor, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Monday conducted a joint site inspection at the IOC Junction on Banaswadi Main Road to review plans for the proposed elevated rotary flyover project.

The inspection was carried out along with officials from B-SMILE and K-RIDE, as the location is set to witness simultaneous infrastructure works, including the Suburban Railway Project. Emphasising coordinated execution, Rao directed both agencies to work in tandem to ensure seamless implementation without causing inconvenience to the public.

The comprehensive project, estimated at ₹380 crore, envisages the construction of a 3–4 km-long elevated rotary flyover and an additional two-lane railway overbridge at the Baiyappanahalli railway level crossing. Officials were instructed to take up both components simultaneously and adhere strictly to the stipulated timeline.

The tender process for the rotary flyover is currently under evaluation of financial bids. Rate negotiations with the selected contractor are underway, and the proposal will soon be submitted to the Government for approval. Work is expected to commence once formal clearance is granted.

The elevated rotary flyover aims to streamline traffic movement between Maruti Sevanagar, Banaswadi, Kammanahalli, and Baiyappanahalli. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly decongest the busy junction, improve service levels, and provide integrated connectivity across key residential and commercial pockets.

During the inspection, the Chief Commissioner also took note of garbage accumulation beneath the existing Banaswadi flyover. He directed the AGM of BSWML to immediately clear the waste and establish a permanent waste kiosk system to maintain cleanliness in the area.

Dr. B.S. Prahalad, Technical Director of B-SMILE, executive engineers, K-RIDE officials, and other senior officers were present during the inspection.
