Bengaluru student alleges gang rape in villa; accused files extortion counter-complaint
Bengaluru
A 19-year-old undergraduate student has lodged a gang rape complaint at the Amruthahalli police station, accusing two men — including a social media acquaintance — of sexually assaulting her at a villa in Jakkur earlier this month.
In her complaint filed on February 22, the student alleged that the incident occurred in the early hours of February 15 at a luxury villa operated on lease by a 34-year-old man from Malleswaram, originally from Sakleshpur. The second accused is a 21-year-old man from West Bengal, whom she had befriended on social media.
The complainant, a native of Tamil Nadu studying at a private college in the central business district and residing in a paying guest facility in Shantinagar, told police that she visited the villa at the invitation of her social media friend.
She alleged that the two men administered her a pink tablet, sexually assaulted her, confined her in a room for several hours, and later dropped her off in Rajajinagar. She further claimed she was threatened with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident. According to her statement, she sought treatment at a private hospital on February 17 and informed her brother abroad, who urged her to approach the police.
Based on her complaint, Amruthahalli police have registered a case under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant provisions. Investigators confirmed that a separate complaint registered at the Malleswaram police station is linked to the matter.
Notably, on February 21 — a day before the woman approached police — the 34-year-old businessman, who also runs a pre-owned car dealership, filed a complaint accusing the student and others of extortion.
In his complaint, he alleged that the woman attended a Valentine’s Day gathering at the villa and behaved in an overly familiar manner. He claimed that he advised her to conduct herself appropriately and later dropped her near Rajajinagar around 4 am on February 15 at her request.
He further alleged that on February 18, the woman posted allegations on Instagram accusing him and his associate of drugging and assaulting her. Following the post, he claimed to have received calls from unidentified individuals demanding money and threatening to broadcast defamatory content if payment was not made.
Police said both complaints are under preliminary investigation. “We are examining all aspects of the case. A counter-complaint has also been registered, and the facts are being verified,” a senior officer said.
