Bengaluru Traffic Police resumes vehicle towing operations to curb illegal parking
Bengaluru
After a temporary suspension, vehicle towing operations have been officially resumed across Bengaluru to tackle illegal parking and ease traffic congestion, authorities announced on Monday.
According to a press note issued by the traffic police, the drive aims to penalise motorists who park vehicles in unauthorised areas, leading to obstruction and disruption of smooth traffic flow across the city.
The renewed enforcement is being carried out by the Bengaluru Traffic Police in coordination with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Officials said the operations came into effect from April 5, 2026, and will initially cover areas under the Bengaluru Central Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.
Authorities plan to gradually extend the towing operations to all municipal zones under the GBA in a phased manner over the coming days.
Emphasising the need for stricter enforcement, officials stated that indiscriminate parking has been a major contributor to traffic bottlenecks in several parts of the city. Continuous towing drives are expected to help restore order and improve vehicular movement.
The public has been urged to strictly follow parking regulations and avoid leaving vehicles in no-parking zones to prevent penalties and inconvenience.
