Made a mistake on your e-Khata application? GBA now lets you fix it yourself

Bengaluru:

In a significant step towards streamlining e-khata services, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has introduced a new facility on its online E-Khata portal that allows citizens to withdraw previously submitted property applications without having to visit any government office in person.

The move, announced by Munish Moudgil IAS, Special Commissioner (IT & Revenue), Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), addresses one of the most persistent pain points faced by Bengaluru’s property owners: the inability to correct errors or omissions in an already-submitted Khata application.

E-Khata system — accessible at https://BBMPeaasthi.karnataka.gov.in — is GBA’s digital platform for managing property records and Khata certificates, which serve as proof of a property’s registration in civic body records. A Khata is an essential document for property owners in Bengaluru, required for everything from securing home loans to obtaining building plan approvals and paying property tax.

Given the complexity of the documentation involved, many citizens make inadvertent errors when filing their applications online — uploading the wrong documents, missing mandatory attachments, or tagging incorrect records to their property entry.

The Problem It Solves

Until now, citizens who discovered a mistake in their submitted E-Khata application had no straightforward remedy. They were left with two unappealing options: wait indefinitely for the BBMP to process and potentially reject the application, or make time-consuming in-person visits to the Area Revenue Officer (ARO) or other BBMP offices to manually request corrections — a process that often involved long queues, multiple trips, and significant delays.

For a city of Bengaluru’s size, where millions of properties fall under BBMP jurisdiction, this created a chronic bottleneck — both for citizens trying to fix genuine oversights and for the civic administration dealing with a backlog of flawed applications.

The newly launched withdrawal feature cuts through this bottleneck with a simple, self-service solution.

Citizens can now:
• Withdraw a pending application themselves, directly through the online portal, at any point before it has been approved or decided upon by BBMP.
• Resubmit a fresh, corrected application immediately after withdrawal, with the right documents, correct tags, and accurate information — all without stepping out of their homes.

Importantly, the feature is available online, making it accessible round-the-clock and eliminating the need for any intermediary or office visit.

Announcing the feature, Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil said the initiative was driven by a commitment to citizen-centric governance. “Sometimes citizens apply E-Khata but make mistakes or miss out on some critical documents or tag wrong documents,” he noted, adding that the new withdrawal option empowers residents to self-correct without being dependent on official intervention.
Moudgil, who has been at the forefront of BBMP’s digital transformation initiatives, emphasised that the feature is part of a broader effort to make civic processes more transparent, efficient, and accessible to the common citizen.

How to Use the Feature
Citizens who wish to withdraw and resubmit their E-Khata application can do so by:
1. Visiting https://BBMPeaasthi.karnataka.gov.in
2. Logging into their account with their registered credentials
3. Navigating to their submitted application
4. Using the Withdraw Application option (available only for pending/undecided applications)
5. Resubmitting a corrected application with all required documents
The withdrawal option is only available before the application has been approved or a final decision has been taken — citizens are advised to act promptly if they identify any errors in their submissions.
