As part of the pulse polio immunisation day, the Bengaluru Central City Corporation on Friday organised a public awareness walkathon on M.G. Road, urging parents to ensure that all children below the age of five receive the life-saving vaccine.
The walkathon was held ahead of the four-day pulse polio vaccination campaign scheduled from December 21 to 24, 2025. The rally began at Gandhi Park on M.G. Road and concluded near the Mayo Hall building, with the aim of spreading awareness among the public about the importance of polio immunisation.
Flagging off the walkathon, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Development Commissioner Daljit Kumar appealed to citizens to administer the “two drops of life-saving protection” to all children under five years of age, including newborns. He emphasised that pulse polio vaccination plays a critical role in safeguarding children’s health and preventing the re-emergence of the disease.
Senior officials and health personnel participated in the awareness drive, including Joint Commissioners Ranganath and Hemanth Sharan, Health Officer Shivakumar, and doctors Sunita and Dhanyakumar. Students from schools and colleges under the central city municipal limits, medical and health department staff, representatives of voluntary organisations, and nursing college students also took part in the walkathon.
The civic body said such outreach programmes are essential to ensure maximum coverage during the upcoming vaccination drive and to reinforce Bengaluru’s commitment to keeping polio at bay.
