Rowdy hacked to death hours after release; Police open fire on suspects in RR Nagar

Bengaluru

In a brutal act of revenge, a 26-year-old rowdy named Vijay was hacked to death by a rival gang in Janata Colony of JJ Nagar on Saturday, barely hours after his release from prison. Vijay, known to have a criminal background, was allegedly lured by the accused under the pretext of a discussion, taken to a secluded spot, and murdered with lethal weapons over an old rivalry.

Following the killing, the JJ Nagar police launched a massive manhunt and tracked the prime suspects — Deepu (28) and Arun (27) — to a deserted area in RR Nagar. When the police team, led by Inspector Kempegowda, moved in to arrest them, the duo reportedly turned violent and attacked the officers with deadly weapons.

Despite being warned and a warning shot fired in the air, the accused continued their assault, forcing the police to open fire in self-defence. Both suspects sustained gunshot injuries to their legs and were immediately apprehended. Some police personnel also suffered minor injuries during the scuffle.

Western Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Giri S confirmed the encounter, stating, “The accused resisted arrest and attacked our officers despite warnings. In self-defence, our team had to resort to firing. Both the injured suspects and our personnel are receiving treatment.”

A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances of the murder and the motive behind this violent retaliation.
