Bangle Gudde a forbidden hillock, most feared spot: Chinnayya told SIT

Bengaluru

The lone accused in the Dharmasthala mass burial case, Chinnayya, told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) during interrogation that Bangle Gudde was considered a “forbidden” place and the most feared spot in the region, a highly placed Home Department source informed blrpost.com.

The SIT, which is probing the case, recovered seven skulls and several human bones from the hillock, including the skull of a child. Investigators are now trying to uncover the mystery behind this site, where human remains appear to have been discarded openly.

Chinnayya was arrested on August 23 on charges of perjury and forgery. The SIT was constituted on July 19, following his own complaint in the Dharmasthala police station alleging that he had been forced to conduct illegal burials. He had also recorded his statement before the Belthangady Magistrate under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Based on his statement, the SIT carried out exhumation operations at 15 locations, recovering two skeletal remains — one at spot 6 and another on the surface of 11(A), both identified as male. However, Chinnayya later retracted his allegations, claiming he was coerced into filing the complaint and that his earlier claims were false. He further alleged that the skull presented as evidence in court had been picked up by Sowjanya activist Vittal Gowda.

During Gowda’s interrogation, the SIT learned that the skull was indeed collected from Bangle Gudde. During the mahazar (spot inspection), the investigation team found multiple skulls scattered across the area and subsequently recovered them. A dedicated search operation was carried out here for two days to recover the discarded skeletal remains.

‘Forbidden hillock’

During the interrogation with Chinnayya he told the SIT that “we were specifically instructed by Dharmasthala temple authorities not to venture into that place. It was a forbidden spot.”

During his stay in Dharmasthala as a sanitation worker he never visited that area. Everyone feared to step on that place. However, he said he has no information as to why that spot was restricted, the source in the Home Department revealed.

Chinnayya’s brother, Thanasi also informed the same to the investigation officers during the interrogation. “As we fear that place, we never dared to lay eyes on that isolated patch in the village.”

The source said the SIT is carrying out a probe into the findings in this hillock and believes that some form of secret ritual may have occurred. The SIT has already ruled out the possibility of suicide spot. In this area only skulls and bones can be found and not the full human body. The SIT also believes that it may find 100s of skulls if they carry exhumation operations.

  1. Amazing! Chinnaya’s account proves to be true as many skeleton’s were found in bangle gudda. Why did Dharmasthala Temple Administration, restrict Chinnayya, Thanasi etc burial workers from entering into bangle gudda? What is the connection here? Why is SIT not investigating Temple Administration Boss? Deadbodies were found in lodges like Sharavathi run by Temple Administration too. Why is SIT not probing Temple administration? Why is SIT trying to trap Mahesh Shetty, Girish, Jayant etc Soujanya Activists who raised voice for justice? Instead of extracting truth from Chinnayya, Why did SIT make Chinnayya accused so quickly? There is a huge suspicion on functioning of SIT itself today. Why no a single rape, murder ,UDR case in Dharmasthala is solved? Why do police fail to nab the criminal behind all these cases spanning over 50 years?! Is the criminal so powerful that he can block justice to escape punishment ?! Govt, Investigating agencies are shameless and doing disservice to common public who’re forced victims

  2. Something new to hear about the spot! Then who used to dispose the bodies there? Too many leads but not a single thread is getting threadbare investigated. Open and shut brazenly!

    1. May be it hints at some strange rituals happening over there. Why would a place be prohibited for no reason?

  3. Seeking justice is punishable in this country. People who are figjting for justice and raising voice over tbe crimes taking place from last 3 to 4 decades are interrogated, suspected and fixed in one or the other way to keep them mum by force. I strongly beleive all the departments from CM office to police constables are in favor of high profiled people over there. Shameless authorities not able to solve the mysteries of rape and murder. Innocent people were taken life. No fear of law Nd justice there. For sure one day god will make them naked and bring them in front of law and people.

  5. 1. Can u please investigate why the Dharmasthala governing bodies have not been questioned yet.
2.Is the investigation going in a different direction i.e favouring the culprits.
    3. Is there a plan to give a C report
    4. Why are the SITs targetting activists.
    5. SIT officer Manjunath Gowda has been removed is what was heard in some youtube channels. Can you share some clarity on these…

  6. In one place, we are made to feel that SIT is doing a fair job. But when we see the news out there in public, it is clearly understood that SIT has not even gone close to doing a fair job as we see Soujanya activists being harassed constantly by the SIT. Which out of this is True…??
