Exclusive: Evolved Jaish-e-Mohammad was planning large-scale attacks to avenge Op Sindhoor

Bengaluru/New Delhi

A highly placed source familiar with the investigation into Delhi car blast revealed that initial probe suggested that evolved Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was planning large-scale attacks in parts of India to avenge Operation Sindhoor. The balst occurred in the evening hours on November 10.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formed a special 10-member team to probe the recent blast near Red Fort. The team, which includes an IG, two DIGs, three SPs, and DSP-level officers, will work under the leadership of NIA ADG Vijay Sakhare.

It may be recalled that the Indian government carried out Operation Sindhoor between May 7 and May 10, a tri-service military response to a dastardly terror attack at Pahalgam. Indian forces struck specific targets including JeM base. JeM Commander Masood Azhar admitted that missile strikes killed his family.

The sources say that the probe into the Delhi blast has now revealed that the Faridabad JeM module is linked to the blast. Umar Mohammad (presumed dead in the blast), the prime suspect behind the blast, was linked to Pakistan-based terrorist group JeM.

The module is evolved as their recruits are highly educated persons and they mobilise funds using cryptocurrencies. They also use darknet to source materials.

A source that has been giving inputs on terror organisations to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) talking to blrpost.com said “the module uses crypto networks like Monero that promises highest privacy over transactions.”

The source said after Operation Sindoor, JeM’s sleeper cell was made active to work towards the attack. The module had aborted an attack they had planned during Diwali. The source further said they were hatching a large-scale attack plan to seek revenge against Operation Sindoor.

It should be noted that Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh ATS, apprehended Parvez Saeed, the brother of previously arrested suspect Dr. Shaheen Shahid, from Lucknow earlier this week. Sources indicate that Parvez was a member of a encrypted chat group as Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adeel, under investigation for links to a larger network.

Although authorities did not recover significant materials during the arrest, ATS officials suspect that Parvez may have destroyed explosive-related evidence in anticipation of the police action. Investigators are now scrutinising digital records to determine the full scope of his role within the network and uncover potential connections to other members.

Dr. Shaheen Shahid (also referred to as Dr. Shaheen Saeed) is a former medical college lecturer from Lucknow, India. She was leading the women’s wing of the JeM in India, an outfit called Jamaat-ul-Momineen, the sourcer said. She was arrested on November 10. Her arrest followed the seizure of a massive cache of over 2,900 kg of explosives and weapons (including an AK-47 rifle) from a property linked to Dr. Muzammil Shakeel in Faridabad. An assault rifle was reportedly recovered from her car.

She was also an associate of Dr. Muzammil Shakeel (or Muzammil Ahmad Ganai), a key suspect arrested earlier, and worked at the same institution, Al-Falah University in Faridabad.
