SIT finds no evidence to suggest Bangle Gudde is a suicide point

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has searched the Bangle Gudde area as part of the probe into the Dharmasthala mass burial case, has so far not found any evidence to suggest that the site was a popular suicide point.

The SIT began searching for skeletal remains on the forested hillock on Wednesday and recovered several skulls and bones. The exact number has not yet been disclosed. The discovery has raised a common question: was this a suicide spot?

A highly placed source in the Home Ministry told blrpost.com, “the investigation team has so far not found evidence to conclude that this was a suicide spot or that the skulls belong to individuals who died by suicide. The discovery of a rope and identity cards does not automatically make it a suicide point. Instead, this calls for a deeper investigation into what was actually happening in this secluded place.”

The source clarified that media reports claiming one of the skulls belonged to a person who went missing in 2018 are false. While an identity card was indeed recovered, the SIT has not found evidence linking it to any of the skulls. On the rope found at the site, the source noted that ropes have multiple uses—not just for suicide but also for crimes such as murder.

The source further questioned, “If it was truly a suicide point, why was it unknown to villagers all these years?”  The SIT, he said, will get to the root of the matter to uncover the truth behind the skulls found at Bangle Gudde. The SIT has done research on this hillock before initiating action which many do not know including low-rank officials in the investigation team.
