Whitefield’s PG slums faces heat as Bengaluru East Corporation set to crack down
Bengaluru
The Bengaluru East City Corporation is set to launch a stringent crackdown on unauthorised and illegal paying guest (PG) accommodations and lodging houses operating within its jurisdiction.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar said that the initiative aims to ensure public health and safety by targeting establishments functioning in violation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, and engaging in commercial or non-residential activities in designated residential areas.
She instructed officials to take firm action against such facilities that have failed to obtain valid licenses or comply with prescribed terms and conditions. To streamline the process, the corporation has appointed health officers from each division as nodal officers to lead inspection teams and implement the enforcement schedule.
Inspection schedule
- Mahadevapura Zone: Led by Rakesh N, inspections will be carried out in Hoodi, Whitefield, and Marathahalli sub-divisions on November 12, 13, and 14 from 9 am onwards.
- KR Puram Zone: Under the supervision of K M Visveshwaraya, inspections will cover Horamavu, KR Puram, and HAL sub-divisions on the same dates and timings.
According to officials, the enforcement drive will be executed in coordination with all departments, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a pre-approved action plan. The move marks a significant step toward regulating unlicensed establishments and ensuring the safety and legal compliance of all lodging facilities in East Bengaluru.
