Land hurdle cleared for delayed Ejipura flyover as St John’s gives nod

Bengaluru:

The long-pending Ejipura flyover project has crossed a crucial hurdle on Monday, with the land issue at St John’s hospital finally being resolved after the management agreed to part with a small portion of its land for the construction of portal piers, paving the way for stalled works to resume at full pace.

Chairing a meeting with traffic police officials and representatives of St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said the land-use issue at St John’s has been resolved, allowing construction to proceed without delay.

Officials said a small portion of St John’s land is required on the left side while moving from Central Sadan towards Ejipura to install the five portal piers. The piers will be built along the footpath adjoining the institution’s compound wall. Following discussions, the St John’s management agreed to permit the use of the land, after which the chief commissioner instructed engineers and contractors to mark the area and begin work immediately.

As part of safety measures, barricades will be erected during construction. Space will also be provided for storing construction materials until the work is completed, and the compound wall will be reconstructed immediately after completion of the portal pier works.

Regarding land acquisition for the ramp in the St John’s stretch, Rao directed officials to fast-track the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) process, take possession of the land at the earliest and execute the work swiftly.

Briefing officials on the progress, Chief Engineer Dr Raghavendra Prasad said the 2.38-km-long Ejipura flyover on Ejipura Main Road is advancing at a rapid pace. Of the 762 segments required for the flyover, 645 have already been cast, with 117 yet to be completed. So far, 490 segments have been erected.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division), the Director of St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences Rev Fr Jesudas R., Associate Director (Finance) Rev Fr Tony, executive engineers and other officials were present at the meeting.
