Entry to parks, lakes across Bengaluru restricted after 6 pm on New Year’s Eve

Bengaluru:

Public entry to parks and lakes across Bengaluru will be restricted after 6 pm on December 31, as civic authorities impose precautionary measures ahead of New Year celebrations to prevent overcrowding and maintain public order.

According to separate orders issued on Thursday, the restriction will apply to all parks and lakes under the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru West and Bengaluru Central City corporations. Similar orders are expected from three other corporations too.

Officials said the decision was taken in view of the likelihood of large public gatherings on the night of December 31, the last day of the calendar year, which could potentially lead to untoward incidents or disturbance of public peace.

Civic authorities have been directed to install signboards at all parks and lakes informing the public about the temporary closure and to coordinate closely with the police department to ensure effective enforcement of the orders.

Residents have been urged to celebrate the New Year peacefully and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety and order across the city.
