The death note of a couple who died in 2018 at Vaishali Lodge in Dharmasthala stated that the dirt in democracy can only be cleansed by Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. The couple, identified as Mrityujaya Patil (60) and Netravati M (55), were close relatives of a prominent Congress leader.
According to a Times of India report published online on May 10, 2018, the couple rented a room at Vaishali Guest House on May 7 and were found dead the next day. The lodge in-charge broke open the door after they failed to respond. The couple hailed from Byadagi in Haveri district. ( Couple end life citing degeneration of Indian democratic system)

The report said they died by suicide, using a nylon rope tied to a ceiling fan. A suicide note left behind read: “Due to the free flow of money and liquor, politicians and politics have stooped so low. It has marred democracy. We are unhappy with the development and it can only be cleansed by D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.” A complaint was filed at the Dharmasthala police station in connection with the incident.
A relative of the couple told blrpost.com that the bodies were handed over after a post-mortem at a Mangaluru hospital, and that the incident had shaken many. “The couple appeared happy, and this came as a surprise,” the relative said. Their children are currently abroad.
